Ask an owner where their week goes and you'll hear about the jobs. Ask their spouse and you'll hear the truth: the evenings and weekends disappear into the desk.

Most admin time is really lookup time

Break down what "doing admin" actually means and a pattern shows up. Before you can do anything, you have to find something:

  • Before you invoice, you find which jobs closed without one
  • Before you follow up, you find which quotes went quiet
  • Before you schedule, you find who's free Thursday and what's already booked
  • Before you answer "did we ever fix the Hendersons' water heater?", you dig through job history

The doing takes minutes. The finding takes the evening. Your field service software has every answer, but it hands them out one report tab, one filter, one click at a time.

Asking beats clicking

After: Ask three questions from the truck at 4:45. Know your stale quotes, your unbilled work, and tomorrow's board before you pull in the driveway. The only desk work left is decisions.

The math on even a third of that time coming back: five hours a week is 250 hours a year. That's six extra workweeks, at the desk rate of zero dollars an hour, converted back into billable time or your actual life.
